Reinventing Life

Multi-dimensional. I am a Navy pilot (you are for life!) but left the service (stayed Reserve) to get married and became an Engineer. Unfortunately I was always being promoted, so I only got to do "real" engineering for about 8 years. I was awarded 3 patents during that time. I became a program manager on moving to New Jersey in 1992, and was in management until forced to retire in 2011 when they closed Fort Monmouth. The most interesting thing I've done was to sell commercial communications satellites while I was at AstroSpace (now closed). I was the regional director for Latin America. Lots of stories.

I am financially secure with four different pensions (no kidding), three of which could be passed on to a surviving spouse. Now I take care of the family's real estate. I actually like doing that and have been able to minimize the crazies I have to deal with.

I am calm and easy going, pretty tolerant. My life for the last 30 years has been centered around my family. The most important job for me was being a father and a husband. My two grown kids moved back home to be with their mom during her illness. In the next year I plan to set both of them up in our New Jersey houses (lots of work to get them ready for that), and finish up my mom's estate in California. After that who knows. My good friend is sailing his schooner around the world so I may crew for him fo awhile. My best friend is in Ukraine and I'd like to visit him there. My kids and I are going to Ireland in June to visit their old nannys (grown with kids of their own now). So after my travels I will see where I am.

In looking back at my life, my happiest times have been when I'm with my kids. I coached every sport they played, mostly to spend time with them but also to teach them sportsmanship can comraderie. My kids sat the bench as did my best players like everyone else. Youth sports to me is more about fellowship and character building than athletics. I taught CCD and ran the youth group and youth choir. I love kids. Why else are we on this earth. I never want to move to a retirement community, I always want kids around. Once I was asked to run for town council; I replied: I like kids much better than adults, thank you, so I'll just keep coaching.
